TRAINING
An essential element of the Shipping Federation’s mandate is to ensure that members and other maritime industry stakeholders (including government officials and regulators) have access to quality training programs on relevant aspects of the commercial shipping industry. This is accomplished by developing and delivering courses that have been specifically tailored to the needs and interests of the industry, establishing partnerships with other organizations to optimize the use of existing resources and leverage the Federation’s training efforts, and providing information on training resources in addition to those offered by the Federation.
Specific training programs and initiatives in which the Federation is involved include:
Certificate in Marine Transportation
- A university-level program composed of 5 marine courses focusing on key aspects of the commercial shipping industry (Introduction to Shipping, Vessel Husbandry & Port Operations, Commercial & Contractual Aspects of Shipping, Customs & Documentation, Practical Chartering)
- All courses developed and delivered by professionals working within the industry
- Offered in partnership with Concordia University’s Centre for Continuing Education
- All courses available on site (Montreal) and on-line (www.shipfed.ca)
- All courses available individually or as part of Certificate program
- Fall 2011 semester begins September 20

IMDG Training Course
- A one-day seminar on the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and its applicability to commercial marine operations
- Offered in Montreal, Toronto, Halifax
- Meets Transport Canada’s IMDG training requirements
- Can be tailored to meet your organization’s requirements
